ISDN-BRI

ISDN (BRI) Basic Rate Interface provides two data channels.  Depending upon your need or application, these channels can be set up to allow you to transmit and receive:

  • One channel voice (64kbps): one channel data (64kbps)
  • One channel voice (64kbps): one channel alternating to support either voice or data (64kbps)
  • Two bonded channels data (128kbps)
  • Two channels, alternating to support either voice or data (64kbps to 128kbps)

In the BRI configuration, there are two B (bearer) channels contained within the ISDN circuit.  These carry the customer's communications.  The remaining channel - the D (data) channel, provides control and signaling for the B channels.

The ISDN (BRI) was designed for the desktop and is great for the home office application because it can give the user faster data communications (128,000 bits per second) and video conferencing.  Is a beneficial service to those who require…

  • Work at home applications
  • Access and search capabilities to large amounts of data.
  • Remote access to work related data
  • High-Speed Internet access who are "outside" the DSL distance limitation of 17.5 ft.
