All clear issued in southeast Wis., switch outage resolved

TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS) is pleased to report the voice service outage, caused by a software error in the New Berlin, Wis. switch, was restored at approx. 2:30 p.m. today (March 6). All customers should be functioning properly at this time; however, TDS is asking for customers to call in if you are still experiencing any problems.

TDS software engineers and technicians, along with a key vendor, were able to identify the source of the problem and restart the switch to restore most customers’ services in less than an hour after the outage.  However, at 12:45 p.m. it became necessary to reboot the switch to rectify issues with improperly routing calls.  As a result, TDS reset the switch and created a second outage that lasted between 30-45 minutes for most customers in the area.  TDS was able to completely restore the switch and called an “all clear” early in the afternoon at 2:27 p.m.

Understanding that customer service lines were full with calls (customers may have received an all circuits busy message), TDS quickly implemented emergency communications to notify all local media, update websites and utilize social media site, Twitter, to keep customers updated.
