TDS: Investing for the future
There’s no doubt about it—high-speed Internet service leads to increased productivity, spurs economic development, and creates job growth. That’s why TDS continually works to improve and enhance the infrastructure, which delivers this technology to your community and to your home. During the past two years, TDS invested nearly $280 million and:
- Increased Internet speeds, up to 25 Mbps, by deploying fiber to homes in new residential subdivisions and upgrading equipment to maximize copper facilities in many established neighborhoods.
- Completed the multi-million dollar 10 Gigabit (10G) Ethernet network; connecting TDS networks in 30 states and providing 1,000 times more network bandwidth.
- Prepared for groundbreaking in stimulus-funded markets. In 2009–2010, the USDA Rural Utilities Service awarded TDS 44 contracts to expand access to high-speed Internet service in 20 states. We broke ground in Chatham, Mich. in June 2011 and expect to break ground on many remaining projects in 2012. A majority of the build-outs will be completed in 2012, the remaining are scheduled to be completed in 2013.
In addition to investing in our network, TDS also:
- Introduced IPTV in several TDS communities; preparing for expansion to more communities in 2012.
- Upgraded our Web sites, making it easier for you to manage your TDS account online, get information about products and services, and submit (and track) any problems. More upgrades are coming in 2012.
While TDS is committed to investing in our network and technology, we also continue to invest in and support local community events and activities. Check it out.
