Important: Spyware/Virus Update

There is a new malicious spyware and virus threat that attempts to access TDS account information and passwords. The Trojan most likely uses a key logger to “steal” your username and password to log in to your TDS account. This enables the hacker to use your compromised information so they can send spam from your TDS web mail account.

TDS customers can take these steps to help reduce the amount of spam going through the system as well:

  • Maintain secure passwords for your TDS account and email addresses. TDS recommends that your passwords meet the following criteria to make them more secure:

Bad password practices:

  • Using your login id or permutations thereof as a password
  • Using family or pet names easily associated with you
  • Using your phone numbers
  • Using words found in a common dictionary
  • Using the name of your computer
  • Using passwords that are too short

Good password practices

  • 8 characters or more in length
  • Use at least 3 of the 4 character types (upper and lower case letters, numbers, and punctuation)
  • Use letter from a phrase Hddtcatf (Hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle)
  • Combine words: Eggs, door = Egdoorgs
