How to configure Mac Mail 1 (Mac OS 10.3 or earlier) for use with TDS Email

To setup Mac Mail 1 for OS 10.3 follow the instructions below.  For instructions on how to configure Mac Mail for OS 10.4 (or if the instructions below aren't working for you) click here.

  1. Open Mac Mail
  2. If you are setting up Email for the first time a "Welcome to Mail" screen should appear.  If that is the case follow the steps below; if not skip to step 3.
    • Full Name:
      • Enter your first and last name
    • Email Address:
    • Incoming Mail Server:
      • Enter pop.tds.net
      • Leave POP selected for Account Type
    • User Name:
    • Password:
      • Enter the password for your TDS Email address
    • Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):
      • Enter smtp.tds.net
    • Click OK at the bottom of the screen and then No on the Import Mailboxes window
    • Finally, select No again and you should be ready to access your Email.  There is nothing more that needs to be done!
  4. If the "Welcome to Mail" screen did not appear start here: Select Mail and then Preferences
  5. Select the Accounts button
  6. If you have an existing Account on the left, remove it by highlighting it and selecting the Minus (-) sign at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Click the Plus (+) sign at the bottom of the screen and click Continue
  8. In the "Account Type" field, select POP
  9. In the "Account Description" field, enter TDS.NET
  10. In the "Full Name" field, enter your name
  11. In the "Email Address" field, enter your email address.
  12. Click Continue
  13. In the "Incoming Mail Server field", enter pop.tds.net
  14. In the "Username" field, enter your email address
  15. In the "Password" field, enter your password
  16. Click Continue
  17. Do not check Use Secure Socket Layer
  18. In the Authentication field, select Password
  19. Click Continue
  20. In the "Outgoing Mail Server" field, type smtp.tds.net
  21. Click Continue
  22. Do not check "Use Secure Socket Layer"
  23. Click Continue, confirm the information is correct, and click Continue again
  24. Close the Accounts Window

You should now be able to use Mac Mail to access your TDS Email account!
