DSL Modem Firmware Upgrade Instructions

The following instructions will help you upgrade or reset your Actiontec DSL Gateway (if you are unsure which DSL Gateway you use please visit our Firmware Download Page). When you upgrade your firmware all settings including wireless configurations that are setup in your modem will be lost.

Do not attempt this procedure if you are connected to the Actiontec via a wireless connection, are a business customer with a static IP, or are using a Mac. You must connect a computer directly to the gateway with the supplied Ethernet cable before proceeding. Also, do not unplug the gateway or make any changes to any of your wiring while the upgrade is taking place.

  1. Visit the Firmware Download Page and download your firmware.
  2. When the download is complete, unplug the phone line from the back of your Actiontec DSL gateway.

If you have a firewall, please disable it before continuing. The Windows XP firewall can be disabled by clicking on "Windows Firewall" in your Control Panel. If you have a firewall from a different vendor, please see their documentation for instructions on temporary disabling it while you do the upgrade.

  1. Unzip the TDS Upgrade Tool (If you have no un-Zip utilities on your windows computer you can right-click on the file and click "Extract All".  If you have another Zip utility like Winzip you double-click on the file, click Extract, and select "Desktop" as the location.)
  2. Open the TDS_GT_Upgrade folder
  3. Run the GTUpgrade_1.0.1.8.exe
  4. The Firmware Upgrade Utility will run and guide you step-by-step through the rest of the upgrade
  5. Upon completion of the setup plug the phone line back into your DSL modem. Once you modem has completed the restart you should be able to use the Internet again.
