Actiontec 1520 Firmware Upgrade Instructions

The following instructions will help you upgrade or reset your Actiontec 1520 DSL Gateway (shown below)

(If you are have a different DSL Gateway please visit our Firmware Download Page to find the firmware version). When you upgrade your firmware all settings including wireless configurations that are currently setup in your modem will be lost.

Do not attempt this procedure if you are connected to the Actiontec via a wireless connection, are a business customer with a static IP, or are using a Mac. You must connect a computer directly to the gateway with the supplied Ethernet cable before proceeding. Also, do not unplug the gateway or make any changes to any of your wiring while the upgrade is taking place.

  1. Visit the Firmware Download Page and download your firmware.
  2. When the download is complete, unplug the phone line from the back of your Actiontec DSL gateway.

    If you have a firewall, please disable it before continuing. The Windows XP firewall can be disabled by clicking on "Windows Firewall" in your Control Panel. If you have a firewall from a different vendor, please see their documentation for instructions on temporary disabling it while you do the upgrade.
  3. Open your web browser (IE, Safari or Firefox) 
  4. In the Address field enter 192.168.1.1 and then click Go
  5. This will load the main TDS Actiontec administration page.
  6. Click Utilities
  7. Click Upgrade Firmware
  8. Next to the field labeled New Firmware Image click the Browse button.
  9. Locate the file you just downloaded and click OK
  10. Click the Upgrade button
  11. Allow the upgrade to complete on its own. The process should take 3 to 5 minutes.  Once you have received confirmation that the upgrade is complete you will be asked to Save and Restart.
  12. Plug the phone line back into your DSL modem. Once you modem has completed the restart you should be able to use the Internet again.
