Stimulus package includes monies for broadband expansion

As Congress debated the stimulus package in mid-February to help get our economy back on track, they embraced and maintained a commitment to expanding broadband access throughout the nation.

The final version of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which was approved in both houses and signed by President Obama, includes a combination of grants and tax incentives. This opens the door for companies like TDS to apply for funds to expedite expansion of high-speed Internet services to reach customers who live in underserved rural areas.

In anticipation that we'll be applying for funds to connect the remaining 10 percent of our customers, we need your help. Tell us how a broadband connection would positively impact your life. Email us or mail your note to TDS, Legislative Affairs - 7S, 525 Junction Rd, Madison, WI 53717. Please include your name, complete mailing address and phone number.

With your help, we’re hopeful we'll successfully secure the funding necessary to deploy high-speed Internet access to those without access.
