Federal stimulus monies for broadband Internet expansion will be released — soon

Keep your fingers crossed

The federal application process officially gets underway in mid-June. This means TDS Telecommunications Corp. (TDS™) and other communications providers will begin vying for stimulus monies to expand their high-speed broadband Internet networks.

In the last issue of Connect More, we noted that TDS is getting ready to apply for these monies. Many of you told us how a broadband Internet connection would positively impact your professional and personal lives – thank you!

With your help, TDS is optimistic we'll successfully secure the funding necessary to deploy high-speed Internet access and connect our currently unserved areas.

In the last decade, TDS has invested millions of dollars to successfully deploy broadband services to more than 91 percent of our customers. With the help of federal stimulus monies ($7.2 billion has been set aside for broadband deployments), we'll hopefully close the gap and connect the remaining high-cost areas that, due to geography, are significantly more challenging to serve.

Stay tuned. As the federal application review process gets underway, we'll keep you posted and share our successes. Keep your fingers crossed we're fortunate enough to receive adequate funding.
