TDS Telecom to build major fiber internet network in Nampa, Idaho

More than $70 million in private-sector investment to expand internet service for Nampa residents

TDS Telecom (TDS®) has finalized plans with local officials to build a nearly 800-mile fiber internet network in Nampa, Idaho. TDS leaders recently held in-person meetings with senior city staff and construction partners to solidify this agreement.

This major fiber optic project will bring what’s known as the “gold standard of residential internet connections” to approximately 46,000 addresses in Nampa. This includes about 42,000 residential addresses and roughly 3,800 commercial locations.

The total private-sector investment to expand internet service for Nampa residents will be more than $70 million. The network will deliver up to 2Gig internet download and upload speeds, along with TV and phone service.

“We greatly appreciate the investment of TDS to enhance the infrastructure and services available to the citizens of Nampa,” said Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling.

Construction is scheduled to begin by the end of the year. While construction will be done in phases, the first homes are expected to be connected in 2022.

According to BroadbandNow.com, only 32 percent of the United States has access to fiber internet, putting Nampa among a select number of communities with access. With Nampa home to the Ford Idaho Center and Horse Park, a number of quality educational options, a thriving business community, and small-town charm, the TDS investment will help Nampa continue to grow and enhance the quality of life for residents.

“We are excited to partner with Nampa officials and bring top-quality internet service to the community. We’re confident this significant investment in a key component of infrastructure will benefit Nampa residents for years to come,” TDS Telecom Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs Andrew Petersen said.

In addition to fast internet, TDS’ expansion in Nampa will give residents a new choice for TV and phone providers. TDS’ TV product, TDS TV®+, offers local and national networks, integration with popular streaming services, the ability to start shows over, and cloud DVR. Phone packages and service bundles are available. 10Gig dedicated connections will be available for businesses, as well as TDS’ hosted VoIP communications solution, and TDS TV+.

TDS has served Idaho since 1988, previously doing business as Potlatch Telephone Company. In addition to Nampa, TDS serves customers in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Juliaetta, Troy, Kendrick, Garden City, Boise, and Meridian.
